Mission Hills, an upscale area of beautiful historical homes, sits above Old Town on the rolling hills that overlook the San Diego harbor. Many homes designed by renowned architect Irving Gill have been preserved and renovated. In this area, you will find Craftsman homes, Spanish Revival, California bungalows, Mission-style homes and many other one-of-a-kind residences. As an older, more established area of San Diego, Mission Hills homes varying in price from moderate to estates, with a mix of price ranges possible on any given street. Mission Hills Nursery was started more than a century ago by Kate Sessions, who served as the landscape artist for Balboa Park. This nursery, along with shopping and other services along Washington and Goldfinch Streets serve as the neighborhood and commercial center. Adding to the charm are many small cafes and specialty retail shops that line the streets. The area enjoys many community activities including Friday summer concerts held in Pioneer Park, a street fair for local artisans, and various church and civic events.
